Switzerland manager Vladimir Petkovic says that his team cannot just rely on scoring from set pieces if they are to beat France

Switzerland manager Vladimir Petkovic says that his team cannot just rely on scoring from set pieces if they are to beat France in the group stages.

The national team had a tough start to Euro 2016 after managing only a draw with Romania in the second game. This was seen as one of the winnable matches for Switzerland, but the 1-1 draw has severely hurt their chances of qualification. They started the tournament with a narrow 1-0 win over Albania. So far, the team has scored only two goals but both of them have come from set pieces.

Swiss fans disappointed with exit

Switzerland fans said that they were disappointed with the way their team was eliminated at the Euros.

However, they were proud of the playing style shown by their team at the tournament and believe that they deserve better.

SWITZERLAND IN RACE TO MAKE THE KNOCKOUT STAGE OF EURO 2016

Switzerland are in a very tough race to make the knockout stage of the continental tournament in France, especially as they are in a tough group.

KLOPP AND LIVERPOOL PLAYERS ARRIVE SWITZERLAND AHEAD OF EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL

Liverpool football club players and crew arrived the country ahead of the Europa League final slated for Wednesday against Spanish side, Sevilla in Basle.

The team arrived Switzerland on Monday ahead of the hugely anticipated Wednesday game. A European trophy and a place in next season's Champions League are up for grabs for the Reds, as they did not make top four in the Premier League.

Klopp, who has taken Liverpool to two cup finals during his first seven months in charge at Anfield, and his players were greeted at the club's training ground by excited supporters ahead earlier in the day before the team left for Switzerland to begin their final preparations. They played in the finals of the League One cup where they eventually lost to Manchester City.

What next for Valon Behrami?

Valon Behrami struggled to hold down a regular spot in Quique Sanchez Flores’ starting line-up this season but the Switzerland international has done just about enough to earn a place in their Euro 2016 squad. Behrami has made over 60 appearances for his country and has featured at four major tournaments since bursting onto the international stage in 2005.

Needs game time
However, his lack of form at club level and uncertain future will be of some concern to Swiss fans ahead of the tournament. Flores, who left Watford by mutual agreement at the end of the campaign, has dismissed Behrami in recent weeks and the 31-year-old’s last Premier League appearance came in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham back on April 20th.

Will Shaqiri lead Switzerland to the latter stages?

Unfortunately for Switzerland, they have been paired up with host nation France in Group A of this summer’s European Championship.

However, they will also face Romania and Albania – and both fixtures are certainly winnable. Whilst top spot may be out of reach, there’s no reason why Switzerland cannot qualify for the knockout stages as runners up.

Vladimir Petković requests Gokhen Inler to get into Leicester City

Gokhen Inler was signed by Leicester City for a fee of £3 million back on August of 2015, unfortunately for the 31 year old player; he has never truly managed to secure a starting role spot in the Premier League club.

Ever since Inler joined the Premier League outfit, he has had to spend the majority of the season as an unused substitute. The Swiss player does not play any influential role in the club and this might become a problem for Gokhen Inler if he wants to perform for his national team.

Vladimir Petkovic is the head coach of Switzerland and he stated that in order for Gokhen Inler to get a call up, he will have to prove his worth by snatching a starting role spot in Leicester City.

Switzerland recently played friendly matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republic of Ireland and Gokhen Inler did not appear in any of these games. Vladimir Petkovic spoke about the reasoning of his decision to drop Inler as the 52 year old Bosnian manager said:

Swiss Coach Gets Presents From Rival Teams

One of the advantages of Switzerland hosting friendly matches is that the coach gets presents from the visitor teams.

That’s what happened on 29th March 2016. Though the friendly match played between Switzerland and Bosnia did not end in favor of the host, the beginning was definitely sweet.

Vladimir Petkovic did a great job by getting Switzerland into the Euro 2016

Former Lazio manager Vladimir Petkovic did a great job by getting Switzerland into the Euro 2016. He has been rewarded for this fine job with a new contract from the Swiss FA.

The extension signed by the manager will see him stay as national team coach until 2017. This will cover most of the qualifying matches for the World Cup 2018. The manager, however, will receive a straightforward extension if he manages to get the national team into the World Cup 2018 as well.
