SWISS FOOTBALL RAISES ITS GAME

Swiss football has a glorious chance to become one of the top leagues in Europe after newcomers to the Champions League FC Basel managed to edge out German giants Bayern Munich in the latest Champions League encounter between both teams.

Bayern Munich were drawn against FC Basel in the last 16 of the Champions League. It was a tie Bayern Munich were expected to sail through, but it has proven not to be the case after FC Basel have started the German club by beating them 1-0 in the first leg.

Bayern Munich have been disastrous away from home and FC Basel took total advantage of it by securing a lead going into the second leg.

Even though the odds of FC Basel making it into the quarter-finals of the Champions League still remain extremely low, it at least gives them a fighting chance at the Allianz arena in the second leg. Bayern Munich have been totally dominant at home this season, and it has been away from home that they have struggled. Hence, Swiss club FC Basel were looking at the opportunity to take some kind of an advantage going into the second leg, and they have done exactly that with the 1-0 win.

This is not the first time FC Basel have managed a shock result in the Champions League this season. They have already beaten last season's finalist Manchester United at home 2-1 recently. It was a result that sent Manchester United out of the Champions League in the group stages itself.

As a result, Bayern Munich were warned enough prior to the match, but they did not heed the advice. Now, they face an uphill task to get into the quarter finals of the Champions League. FC Basel star Xherdan Shaqiri is likely to join Bayern Munich for around $ 15 million.
