SCHAR ON TARGET AGAINST BRIGHTON

Switzerland international Fabian Schar was one of the goalscorers for Newcastle United as they beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 at home in the Premier League to move further away from the relegation zone.

Newcastle United came into Brighton game on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in the league and with a record of four wins and three draws. They made a bright start with Scotland national team star Ryan Fraser getting the opening goal of the game beforehe turned provider for Switzerland defender Schar to double the lead via a header from his corner kick. Switzerland star Schar had not scored in the Premier League this season before he added a second goal for his team against the Seagulls.

The goals from Fraser and Schar gave Newcastle United a well deserved two-goal lead at the half-time break. Brighton were very poor in the first half especially on the defensive front, but they improved in the second half and it was one of their defenders who got them back in the game. Club skipper Lewis Dunk produced a header that beat Slovakian shot stopper MartinDubravka in the Newcastle United goal to halve the deficit. Brighton pushed for a second goal that would have earned them at least one point afterwards, but they failed to get the goal as Newcastle United held on to take the three points thanks to the strikes from Ryan Fraser and Fabian Schar. Fraser had already opened his Premier League account for the season before the game, while it was the first Premier League goal of the season for Switzerland defender Schar.
With the win over the Seagulls, Newcastle United were able to move eight points clear of the relegation zone and they are now on a run of eight games without defeat in the league.
