Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka has admitted that he made a big mistake during the recent Premier League game at home to Burnley. The Switzerland national team captain came in for a lot of criticisms for his action that led to a red card during the game. Granit Xhaka was given his marching orders after he grabbed Burnley player Ashley Westwood by the throat in the second half of the league game with the scoreline at goalless.

The head coach of the England U-21s national team Aidy Boothroyd has lamented that his England side have been drawn into a group of death and it will be difficult to make significant progress in the group.

The Young Lions belong in the same group as Croatia, Switzerland, and Portugal in Group D and will face their rivals in the 2021 Euros competition in Slovenia and Hungary. The draw was held on Thursday and one of the top seeds before then included Boothroyd”s boys.

The Athletic reporter David Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal duo Pablo Mari and Granit Xhaka have picked up injuries during the club’s recent clash against Manchester City and the former could be ruled out for the rest of the season. The north London side resumed their league action after the coronavirus shutdown with an away trip to the Etihad Stadium and it was one to forget as they were beaten by a comfortable 3-0 score.

Switzerland international Xhaka has been a key performer under the guidance of Mikel Arteta but he was unfortunately injured after just three minutes on the clock. On the other hand, Mari sustained an injury of his own at the halfway mark of the opening half and that definitely affected the club’s gameplan on the night.

Still, Keown does not feel the Switzerland international is the solution for the Gunners in the holding midfield role and he would prefer someone of Partey’s calibre to accompany Lucas Torreira in the centre of the par, he told Stadium Astro: “I think Partey from Atletico Madrid, the midfield player that sits, very strong, tough player. He’s the sort of type of player that Arsenal need in that midfield. I think Torreira is a player who doesn’t get used enough, I know he’s been injured. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised the attitude shown by Granit Xhaka during the backend of the 2019/2020 campaign. The Switzerland international was involved in a furious bust-up with the fans when he was substituted during a Premier League clash against Crystal Palace in October last year and he was shortly stripped of the captaincy.

Unai Emery, who was the head coach back then, decided to drop the midfielder for the next five matches before he made his comeback against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League. Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has admitted that it would be a great loss for the Gunners, should Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang head through the exit door during the next transfer window. The Gabon international has been in fine form this term with 20 goals from 31 appearances but it is unclear whether he would remain with the club next season with his contract expiring in 12 months’ time.

So far, the club have not made any breakthrough in the contract talks and it has been suggested that they could offload him at the end of the campaign rather than losing him on a free transfer next summer. Speaking to SportBild, Xhaka said that Aubameyang has always been very professional at the north London giants and it would be a great loss, if the marksman parts ways with the club in the next transfer window, he told: “If that were to happen, it would, of course, be a great loss for the team and the club. Auba is always dangerous and always good for a goal, and as a guy, he’s also really great. He is always positive, optimistic, helpful and very professional.”

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has confirmed that he was in discussions with Hertha Berlin in December but he opted to remain with the Gunners after being convinced by the plans of Mikel Arteta. Xhaka was involved in an ugly spat with the fans during a Premier League clash in October and he was stripped from the captaincy thereafter.

The Switzerland international made a comeback before the dismissal of manager Unai Emery in late November but it was quite clear that he wanted to leave the club for Hertha during the winter transfer window. However, that did not happen and Xhaka has now revealed that he was convinced to stay put by the appreciation shown by new boss Arteta.

Former Premier League star Danny Mills believes Liverpool are demanding a rather high asking price for Xherdan Shaqiri, who has been injured during the second half of the current season. The Switzerland international arrived at Anfield from Stoke City for £13m in 2018 and he provided qualify back-up off the bench as the Reds went on to win the Champions League crown.

He, however, has struggled to command regular gametime during the current campaign and he has been sidelined for half of the campaign with a nagging calf problem. As a result, he has been tipped to head through the exit door during the summer but the £28m price tag appears inappropriate for Mills, given the forward’s mixed fortunes.
