Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld insists that Switzerland are ready for the challenge of the Netherlands, and that even without a number of key players the Swiss can more than match their neighbours.

Ottmar Hitzfeld will be continuing as the Switzerland national football team coach till 2014 after signing a new contract. Hitzfeld, one of Germany's most successful club coaches with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, took the Swiss national side to the World Cup finals in South Africa last year after taking up the job in July 2008.

The 62 year-old's contract was due to expire in mid-2012, but he will now stay on for the 2014 World Cup if Switzerland qualify.

Switzerland’s Grasshopper-Club could be wound down after a falling-out from the city authorities.

Hoppers were founded on September 1, 1886, and have been Swiss champions 27 times and cup-winners on 18 occasions. Now they are considering a provisional move to ground-share at Aarau.

Club president Urs Linsi said: “Better for the club to live in Aarau than die in Zurich. We have no alternative but to move out.”

Switzerland are set to inspect various football organisations like FIFA, UEFA console and so on. The country has decided to hold an investigation amid recent bribery scandals, the Swiss Federal Council said adding that it is looking for the eradication of corruption and bribery on all levels.

After the inspection, the country's Federal Sports Service will prepare a report revealing the measures the sports organizations are taking to prevent and remove possible violations.

Switzerland star Alexander Frei has retired from international football with immediate effect. The Basel striker stated that Switzerland's Euro 2012 qualifier away against England on June 4, 2011 will be his last match for the Schweizer Nati.

"I considered many positive wishes, requests and tips from everyone who encouraged me to continue with the national team," the 31-year-old forward was quoted as saying by reporters.

"At the same time, I took into consideration signals from those groups that have recently made no secret of their opinion that my time with the national team was up."

Switzerland have slipped four places in the latest FIFA rankings. The ranking is led by the same world and European champions Spain. The Iberians are in Holland and Germany. A big leap forward made Montenegro.

The Swiss opponent on 8 October in the European Championship qualifiers improved from rank 73 to the 40th Place. The other group opponents England, Bulgaria and Wales are ranked at positions 6, 54 and 84.
