Liverpool boss heaps praise on Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on the showing of Xherdan Shaqiri and believes the attacker can become even more influential for the Merseyside outfit. The Switzerland international joined the Reds from Stoke City during the summer transfer window and he was widely expected to perform the back-up duties behind Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane.

However, over the past month, he has managed to become more of a regular from the starting line-up and his performance during that period has unquestionably impressed Klopp. Speaking after the Reds’ 2-0 triumph over Fulham, Klopp was pleased with the progress made by Shaqiri since joining the club and tipped him to be decisive for the club as the season continues.
He said: “Yeah, or even more. What can I say? He’s just a fantastic boy on top, that’s really good, and he knows that he has so much potential still to improve. But of course he’s the guy for decisive moments, that’s how it is, and we have to make sure that it stays like this. Another really good performance and a fantastic goal on top, so it’s really cool.”“Shaqiri was regularly utilised from the bench during the opening months of the season but since the last international break“, Klopp has offered him the chance to impress from the starting line-up which he has done with flying colours. In the past six matches, he has managed to contribute a “goal or an assist “in five of those and hopefully, he can continue with the same run of form when the Reds return after the international break.

Liverpool are currently unbeaten after the first 12 matches of the Premier League and the run sees them only two points behind league leaders Manchester City. Next up, they are scheduled to face Watford on the road before making the Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain.
