Josip Drmic secures free transfer to newly-promoted Norwich City
Switzerland international Josip Drmic has joined Norwich City on a free transfer. The 26-year-old’s contract with Borussia Monchengladbach concluded at the end of the previous month and he has now taken the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League with the Canaries. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:“Now everything is done, I’m very happy. I had very good conversations with Stuart Webber and with the Head Coach Daniel Farke.
“I was talking also to Timm Klose [teammate with Switzerland]. We had a long conversation as I had a lot of questions and he spoke very, very positively about the Club. “I’m very excited to be playing in the Premier League. I cannot wait because I’ve heard a lot of things from my colleagues in the national team who have played in the Premier League.”
Drmic had a fantastic start to his Bundesliga career with Nuremburg during the 2013/14 season where he scored 17 league goals. Since then, he has plyed his trade with both Bayer Leverkusen and Monchengladbach, but he has not quite found the same level of performance with plenty of fitness concerns along the way.
Despite this, the Canaries have taken the chance of landing him on a Bosman and they will be hoping that the challenge with a lower-level club can bring out the best out of the forward. Norwich were undoubtedly the best team through the previous Championship campaign but they can brace themselves for a stiff task on their comeback to the top-flight.
The Canaries have been demoted to the Championship during their past two seasons in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether they can avoid a repeat with some meaningful business this summer. Aside from Drmic, the club have landed Ralf Fahrmann and Patrick Roberts on loan from Schalke 04 and Manchester City respectively.
