Granit Xhaka insists Arsenal are still in the Premier League title race

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka believes his side are still in the title race after going on a seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

The Swiss international has been ever-present in the club's Premier League campaign, and recent results for the Gunners have propelled them to fifth in the standings.

Following the Gunners' Premier League triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion, Xhaka was happy with how things progress over the month, he said: "We are into our stride, and we have the top of the table back in our sights. I am happy with things. I am a regular for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and I want to progress still further. Getting straight back into the Champions League next season will be very important for us."

Meanwhile, the Swiss footballer took a dig at Everton, who went on a mega spending spree in the summer, only to struggle in the bottom half of the table, he added: "But our opponents are paying record amounts for players. When I think about a mid-table club like Everton spending £150million during the summer, I am lost for words."

Xhaka earned plenty of plaudits during his early days at Arsenal, but he has yet to fully deliver for the north London club. The Swiss has shown glimpses of his form in recent weeks, but he does have the tendency of making reckless passes which cost his side in the 1-0 defeat to Stoke City in August.

Arsenal are currently six points behind both Manchester City and Manchester United, but they have a realistic chance of closing down the gap with a relatively easier fixture list in October. Arsene Wenger's side have failed to win their big games versus Liverpool and Chelsea this term, and their next big test will come against Manchester City on November 5.
