Charlie Adam claims that the club will target for Europe

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam claims that the club will target for Europe once they get a player like Xherdan Shaqiri on-board.

The club started with a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool on opening day of the season. Just a few weeks ago, it appeared that the club would not be bringing the Switzerland winger to the Britannia stadium. They had been negotiating with Inter Milan even as early as in June. However, the player had some reservations about moving to Stoke at this point in his career. They appear to have played at just the right time for Stoke, as manager Mark Hughes stated that the deal has been resurrected.

The player will undergo a medical in the next few days with a view of being included in the squad for the next league match. Stoke would have been hoping for a positive start to the season, but they were undone by the late winner from Liverpool. For long periods of the match, it looked like finishing as a 0-0 draw since there was little to separate the two teams. If the medical goes through, it is believed that the Switzerland winger will cost Stoke City a massive £ 12 million. He had joined Inter Milan for around the similar fee from Bayern Munich.

“The ambition is to try to get into Europe. That would be a massive achievement. Liverpool was only one game, there are 37 more to go. We want to get into Europe, we want to taste it and that would be a step forward for us. In pre-season we have not really had the right results but we played well against Liverpool and are disappointed with the result. The possession counts for nothing. It is hard to judge what is different about Liverpool. We only worry about ourselves,” said Adam.
