Switzerland national team skipper Granit Xhaka is in contention for the North London Derby encounter between home team Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium this weekend after serving a three-match ban. The Arsenal midfielder was given a three-game ban for his red card during the big Premier League defeat to Manchester City in August. The Swiss player has not featured in any game this month partly due to suspension and Covid-19.Xhaka missed the three Switzerland games earlier this month after testing positive to Covid-19. He has since returned a negative test.

Premier League holders Manchester City were able to score five goals against the Gunners when the two teams met at the Etihad Stadium last month thanks in part to the first half red card to Xhaka for a tackle on Portuguese fullback Joao Cancelo. At the point of his early exit, Arsenal were trailing 2-0 thanks to goals from IlkayGundogan and Gabriel Jesus. Spanish forward Ferran Torres added a third goal before the break and he wrapped up the 5-0 win after compatriot had scored the fourth City goal.

Since the red card to Switzerland player Xhaka, Arsenal have won three games in all competitions and it remains to be seen if Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will thrust him into his starting XI for the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Xhaka has not shown the form at the Euro 2020 tournament at Arsenal this up until his red card against the Citizens. He was arguably the best player for Switzerland at the European Championship as they reached the quarterfinals before losing to Spain on penalties. The midfielder came close to joining Italian Serie A outfit AS Roma afterwards but he has since penned a new Arsenal deal. Roma missed out on Xhaka due to the difference with the Gunners in terms of his transfer fee.
