RONALDO BACK AFTER SWITZERLAND’S SHOCKING DEFEAT

For Portugal’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers game, the Real Madrid sensational player has been named amongst the squad that would be slugging it out with Andorra on the 7th of October.

He is expected to start in the match against Andorra.

His recall was made possible after he had sufficiently recovered from a knee injury sustained during the Euro tournament, which made sure he watched the finals of the Euro 2016 from the technical manager’s stand.

Portugal, who emerged victorious in their Euro 2016 campaign, and are currently the European champions expect Ronaldo to begin firing off at once. This is coming on the heels of the 2 – 0 2018 World Cup Qualifiers away defeat from Switzerland and just after one game, the Euro 2016 champions sit at the bottom of their Group B.

Goals from Breel Embolo and Admir Mehmedi before the 30th minute into the game were enough to ensure that Switzerland won this game. The opening goal by Embolo was in the 24th minute after Rui Patricio, Portugal’s goalie failed to knock the free kick by Ricardo Rodriguez out of danger.

The ball was deflected instead into Embolo’s path and being left unmarked outside the six yard box, he sent a free header twirling into the goal post.

"This group is stronger of course with Cristiano Ronaldo in it, but also because all the other players have had more playing time (since the early season loss)," Coach Fernando Santos said.

Also coming back onto the squad for the Andorra match are key midfielders, Renato Sanches from Bayern Munich and Andre Gomes of Barcelona. Goalie, Anthony Lopes of Lyon isn’t left out as well. They all return after having been forced to drop out of the clash with Switzerland due to injury.

After the match with Andorra on 7th October, Portugal will travel three days later to the Faroe Islands.
