Vladimir Petkovic has warned Roma manager Rudi Garcia

Former Lazio manager Vladimir Petkovic has warned Roma manager Rudi Garcia that it is extremely tough to be successful as a manager of Roman club.

Being a successful manager of the Rome club’s – Roma and Lazio – is something that does not come easily. There have been very few managers who have achieved success with the duo. Often, Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan are seen as the true giants of Italian football. Garcia tried to attempt the impossible by guiding Roma to a league title ahead of Juventus a few seasons ago. His impressive first season at the club has been difficult to replicate.

Garcia is now in danger of losing his job since Roma have nowhere between near enough a title challenge in the 2015-16 season. The club slipped to fifth in the table following a run of one win in the last five. This poor form saw them drop behind Juventus, who made one of the worst starts to a league campaign in recent history. Italian clubs are often quick to change their manager and Roma are no exception. They are contemplating a change and Petkovic has been the latest to offer advice to his Roma counterpart. Petkovic is currently in charge of the Switzerland national team after having agreed to the role when he was the Lazio manager.

“Rome is a very tough place for football, especially if you had a good first season. I think of what happened to me, but also Garcia at Roma and Pioli at Lazio right now.The atmosphere at both clubs creates a lot of expectation and this causes the problems,” said Petkovic. After having achieved qualification to the Euro 2016, Petkovic has something to look forward to in the summer. Switzerland are in the same team as hosts France, while Albania and Romania are the other group opponents.
