Arsene Wenger Says Intelligent Swiss Midfielder will Cope with Suspension

Granit Xhaka was a major signing for Arsenal in the summer, but the player suffers from a big disciplinary problem which reared its ugly head in the game against Swansea.

The midfielder was sent off for a whopping eight time in the last 24 months, but it was his first straight red card of his Arsenal career. The player had made a £ 34 million switch in the summer and only now has he managed to find his feet in the Premier League.Xhaka, though, will be missing the next three matches as a result of the suspension incurred by the straight red card.

Manager Arsene Wenger, though, reckons thatXhaka is extremely intelligent to be able to cope with the issue and he is confident that the player will come back stronger. The Frenchman felt thatXhaka’s sending off was extremely strong since he felt that the challenge only warranted a yellow card. However, it is highly unlikely that Arsenal will contest the decision by the referee. The participation of Arsenal in the Champions League does mean thatXhaka has an opportunity to feature in the first team straightaway. Ludogorets are the next opponents for Arsenal in the Champions League and they could move one step closer towards qualification.

“We are not responsible for the red cards he got somewhere else.He made a foul against Swansea which might have got him a yellow or a red card. It was not meant to hurt anybody. It was just a late tackle to stop a counter-attack. He has been punished. But he is intelligent enough to analyse that as well. The difference between the teams is very small. Ludogorets have good experience in the Champions League and were very good in defeat against PSG,” said Wenger ahead of the meeting with Ludogorets.
